Middle East - HLG CEO Arrested in Dubai

22 Aug 2016

The CEO and managing director of Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has reportedly been arrested in Dubai.

HLG's parent company, Cimic Group, confirmed the development in a statement on its website.

"As a result of a complaint filed with police in Dubai, the CEO and MD of HLG, José Antonio López-Monís, was arrested after market close on 17 August, 2016," Cimic said in the statement.

HLG is a 45% owned associate of Cimic.

It is yet unclear why the chief has been arrested.

López-Monís is being assisted by Cimic, the parent group said in its statement, adding it will "inform the market as required and as further information is available".

There is no additional information about the development at this point, a Cimic Group spokesperson told ConstructionWeekOnline during a phone call on 18 August.

ConstructionWeekOnline contacted HLG UAE but a representative said the company has no comment to offer as yet.
